“You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers.
You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.”    ~Naquib Mahfouz

There are several techniques that utilize muscle testing as health indicators. For many of these techniques, the similarities stop there. Some individuals have attempted to copy the art and science of CRA and to promote it under a similar, though different, name. These people were all originally taught and mentored by Dr. Versendaal, and they know the value and effectiveness of CRA. Over time, the differences between the copies and the original have become great. CRA focuses on the body as it functions as a whole: structures, nutritional chemistry and emotions. CRA also utilizes an in depth scoring system that determines the extent of an imbalance as well as the optimal management program so healing can occur. CRA never became stagnant. It continued to grow and develop in amazing ways because Dr. Versendaal had a heart that desired to help those who were sick, hurting, and without hope. This passion to help others is what drove Dr. Versendaal in his pursuit to continually challenge himself and others in the use, practice, and development of CRA. This passion to serve others continues in the community of all CRA professionals.
No, CRA is not a method of differential diagnosis. It does not have a reflex specific for each of the thousands of diseases diagnosed today. It does, however, locate energy imbalances in the body. If left uncorrected, an imbalance creates a situation where the body starts to demonstrate symptoms and syndromes that need to be addressed. CRA is used to locate these energy imbalances by testing reflexes, thereby uncovering the root cause of health issues.
Yes, Dr. Versendaal researched essential oils for several decades.  None captured the essence of balancing the body energies as he deemed necessary through his work, CRA.  In 2008 he met an aroma therapist whose expertise and quality or work piqued his interest.  They began to work together and over time developed the 6 essential oil formulas for VerVita Products.  Like the nutrition, the essential oils begin with high quality raw materials and are blended together to create a synergy—balancing the energy of the body’s organs, systems, glands, and cells.
The company’s name is VerVita Products, LLC.  In 2009 Dr. Versendaal began working with a biochemist to create a line of products for a company called VerVita Products.  The nutritional formulas were designed to support the body that was created to work as a whole; each system, organ, gland supporting another.   The body contains a sophisticated network of backup systems where if one system, organ, gland…is not functioning optimally, another will work as its backup to maintain homeostasis. A domino effect is created when one organ is out of balance, other backup systems will work overtime to support that organ or gland. Over a period of time this imbalance will affect the backup systems as well when they tire and “fall” like a domino. Symptoms and syndromes may be a result of the backup system failing so it is important to understand what the original cause was that created the imbalance. What was the first domino to fall? In creating VerVita products it is our belief that it’s not the amount of single nutritional ingredients that is most important.  It’s the synergistic effect that occurs when you put even small amounts of high quality raw materials to work together in one formula.  The sum is greater than its individual parts.  It’s called synergy. VerVita’s high quality raw materials plus formulas that support the body as a whole creates a synergy that brings the body into balance so exponential healing and wellness can occur. Each nutrition can be utilized alone or along with one of VerVita’s essential oils.  Create a synergy of healing for the body, mind, and spirit—nutritionally and energetically.
Choosing which essential oil or nutritional product to use can be very confusing, especially when there are literally thousands to choose from.   It takes a lot of time to educate oneself to know which is needed to achieve a desired effect.   People can end up with shelves cupboards filled with nutritional products each one for a different symptom or syndrome. The development of VerVita products was based on scientific based evidence for nutrition and essential oils.   CRA testing sets VerVita Products apart as it has demonstrated and confirmed VerVita’s superior effectiveness. Simply put, the facts of the unseen energies of the body must be given unbiased, adequate recognition and acceptance as well. One longstanding CRA doctor said, “We have the marvelous VerVita products today because of the undeniable evidence of the validity of CRA findings. A VerVita product will often prove to be a more effective choice than another company’s product. Therefore, the most effect product can be found through CRA testing.” Dr. Versendaal intentionally kept the product line small in comparison to other nutritional companies.  Each and every product is unique, very effective and mighty due to the wisdom and brilliance of Dr. Versendaal. He was a genius at understanding how the body works together as a whole. Instead of having one product for one organ or one symptom, he focused on creating formulas to balance the energies of the body’s systems and backup systems as they work together. VerVita’s essential oils and nutritional products start with the highest quality raw materials and are formulated to support the various systems of the body along with its backup systems.  A synergistic effect occurs when even small amounts of high quality raw materials work together in one formula.  The sum is greater than the individual parts creating a platform for healing and wellness. With VerVita Products, the choices are clear.  People experience results.  Professional inventory is kept to a minimum, and costs are kept low.  Extra products are not left on the shelf waiting to be used.   Everyone benefits from VerVita’s high quality products.
Contact Reflex Analysis remains the gold standard for its ability to determine the root cause of dis-ease and to manage the urgent care of the most difficult health situations. With CRA, the professional can go to a remote village and determine what, if any, of the foods, plants, or cultural practices of that area will have any effect—either positive or negative on the health situation. Here in the United States, however, we do not have a shortage of wellness products available. Dr. Versendaal researched many foods, nutrition, and technologies. With CRA he researched the effects, both positive and negative, these things had on the health of the body. He is determined to teach only those management techniques that meet the gold standard of quality and positive effectiveness. Dr. Versendaal compared health care choices to driving a car. If your life depended upon taking a trip across the United States by car, would you rather travel through the mountains and desert in a Fiat or a Mercedes? Both may get you there, but then again…maybe not. If it’s your life at stake you can’t afford to make the wrong choice. The vehicle you choose could very well determine whether or not you will arrive at your destination and goal. Healing and wellness is also a journey, and for many, their life depends on the choices made. Choosing the best nutrition, best technology, and the health professional with the best skills available is a priority in traveling toward your ultimate goal and destination.
When trying to understand how CRA as an energy connection works, it is sometimes helpful to compare the energy of the body to the flow of electricity in a house. We typically don’t think or worry about what’s going on with our body unless something goes wrong and symptoms are produced. It’s the same with our home. No one worries about the refrigerator being able to keep food cold, or the furnace heating the home when it’s 10 degrees outside. If the computer suddenly shuts down, however, and the lights won’t go on, and the house is getting colder by the minute, it becomes an urgent matter. It becomes a priority to assess what happened, and then to figure out what needs to be done. People don’t often think about the flow of energy necessary for their body to perform all of its intricate functions either. We breathe, blink, and go from an easy walk to an urgent run as we cross a busy street as well as process complex issues—all without actually thinking about how this is able to happen. A healthy body is able to adapt according to the given situation and environment. It’s called homeostasis. Energy flows balanced and free to every minute area enabling each cell, organ, and system to live and function. Unfortunately our bodies can also experience energy imbalances. Energy to an organ, gland, system, or structure may be disrupted, or it may be flowing with too high or too low of a frequency necessary for well-being. Interference in the natural, balanced vibrational frequencies of the body causes one to be predisposed to illness and dis-ease. Someone in this state of energy imbalance may be affected by the many causes of disease e.g. stress, poor nutrition, bacteria, etc. Symptoms appear. At onset these may only cause minimal irritation. However, if left unchecked the body would continue to deteriorate to a more severe state of dis-ease.
People throughout the ages have experienced the structure, organization, consistency and effects of creation. They have learned through experience what aspects are needed for survival; sun, moon, rain, plants, etc. They sensed the energy and rhythm of all things and adjusted their lives according to this rhythm. Those who grew crops were, and still are, very much in tune to the rhythm and balance of nature. This rhythm and balance of all things is necessary for an abundant harvest and a healthy life. It was also discovered that healing would occur when this energy was balanced and flowing freely. Without knowing the Creator, they incorporated these things into their culture and belief system. It is our belief that the sun, moon, stars, rain, as well as subtle energies of the universe are all unique and necessary parts of the creation that point directly to the Creator. We believe that it is our responsibility to carefully study and to utilize all aspects of creation in a way that honors the Creator and serves others. Though subtle energy exists, not all energy techniques are viable and not all practitioners are reputable. Determining which of the many energy techniques and philosophies you will follow begins with your personal beliefs. You will most likely learn from and follow someone who most closely models your own outlook. It is the foundation for all your choices and behavior. When researching any healing modality, one should also look at the results achieved through the technique, and finally, gauge the integrity and motivation of the developer. Who or what is given the credit when healing occurs?
Meridians are the major rivers or currents of subtle energy that flow like a river through the organs, glands, cells, etc.
A reflex is one of many specific anatomical locations on the body that are utilized as “gates” or access points through which the river of subtle energy flows. The energy at each of these points corresponds to the energy of a specific organ, gland, system, etc. These points are key to assessing the energy and restoring a normal balance and flow through the body.
Contact Reflex Analysis® (CRA®), simply stated, is an energy connection. It is a technique that assesses the subtle energy status of each organ, gland, system, or structure. Is it balanced or imbalanced? Imbalances stress the body and cause dis-ease. This energy assessment is accomplished by testing one or more reflexes, which are similar to acupuncture points and meridians, and monitoring the reactance of the muscle when in contact with these points. When an energy imbalance is located, the muscle strength will shift as it responds to this imbalance. In CRA the practitioner typically applies a single, gentle downward push on the wrist of a patient’s outstretched arm while also making contact with a specific reflex point on the patient’s body. The gentle, but firm push is like a subtle “question” and the muscle reactivity response is the “answer.”
In our physical universe the main known energy is the electromagnetic field. Western science has specific equipment used to measure the electromagnetic fields and waves. Yet 5000 years of study and experience speaks to the existence of another kind of energy that is not identical to the electromagnetic energy, and traditional scientific equipment cannot measure its existence. History records that early medicine was both an art and a science based upon the existence of the subtle energy necessary for life and health. Just as the existence of the neutron, which cannot be directly detected, is based on indirect evidence, the existence of this subtle energy is also based on indirect scientific evidence. Serious frontier scientists have collected this evidence over the past 50 years in many countries including Russia, China, the United States, Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, and Bulgaria. Advanced scientists have developed and participated in cutting edge physics research, and hundreds of rigorous experiments have been conducted and published. According to a Russian physicist, Dr. Yury Kronn, these experiments “have unequivocally proven the existence and powerful influence of Chi on inanimate matter, on molecular and even on nuclear levels, in chemical reactions and on living organisms, including cells, bacteria, plants, animals and humans.”1 CRA tests the subtle energy that affects humans physically, mentally, and emotionally. Depending on the balance or imbalance of this energy, the effects of a perpetual energy situation in and on all living things will result in health and well being, or it will result in dis-ease. The ancient knowledge of healing in the eastern cultures focuses on balancing these subtle energies that pervade all living things. It is believed that an imbalance of energy or an insufficient flow of that energy is the ultimate cause of disease. Just as our physical body has an organized design, the life energy or subtle energy of our body also has an organized design.

Many CRA practitioners are chiropractors, most likely because Dr. Versendaal was a chiropractor and he loved the chiropractic profession. There are, however, many other professions he worked with closely and are represented within the realm of CRA: medical doctors, naturopaths, nurses, dentists, psychologists, counselors, clergy, nutritional counselors and even veterinarians.
Traditionally, western medicine treats symptoms and diseases through differential diagnosis. It is a systematic procedure where the physician begins by observing a patient’s symptoms, examining the patient, and taking the patient’s personal and family history. The most likely causes of the symptoms are listed as possibilities. The physician will ask questions and perform tests to eliminate possibilities until he or she is satisfied that the “single most likely cause” has been identified. A diagnosis is made, and treatment is prescribed. For example, if a patient has an acid stomach, antacids are given. If the gallbladder is causing pain, it may be removed surgically. If the sinuses are congested, antihistamines and decongestants are prescribed. If that doesn’t help, the sinuses are scraped. Inhalers and steroids are given to control asthma. However, the question remains…“What is the cause?” If one is unable to determine the cause, patients must be content to a life which, at best, consists of symptom management, with no hope for complete healing. Everyday people are diagnosed with some horrific disease. Without minimizing the severity of the diagnosis, you can ask, “What is the cause?” An active parent and work professional suffers from chronic depression. Depression is the symptom as well as the diagnosis. Yet, what’s the cause? A child cannot sit still or focus in school. Grades are very poor. The child’s been diagnosed with ADHD. Lack of focus and concentration, along with a lack of ability to be still are all symptoms. What’s the cause? A woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. What is the cause? What situation(s) occurred to allow normal cells to grow and multiply in abnormal, unhealthy ways? Case studies have shown that no disease is an entity by itself. The cause may be a complex combination of any number of things including nerve interference, poor nutrition, chemicals, food additives, pesticides in food, water, and air, an abnormal life style, stress, abuse, loss, and other physical and emotional “hits” taken over a lifetime. Symptoms due to these issues are not necessarily noticed right away because the body has been created with many systems, organs, and glands, each with multiple backups in place. When one organ is not functioning optimally, the backup organ has to work harder to compensate. For example, if the right kidney is diseased, the left kidney must function to a greater degree. As the primary organ regains function, the backup can return to its state of ease. If any of the backup systems, organs or glands has to work overtime for long periods of time, they will tire and lose optimal function. Each time any part of the body is not functioning optimally, symptoms occur. Unfortunately people are typically more in tune with what is and what is not working in their home than in their own body. Minor symptoms are self-treated with over-the-counter medications and nutrition, and the cause is ignored. The subtle-energy problem remains undiscovered. It is only when the symptoms become unusually annoying or severe to the point of causing concern that the patient typically thinks to see a doctor. Even then, not all doctors are trained in methods used to discover the underlying cause of health problems. Many diagnose and prescribe treatment based on symptoms alone.
